Pray For Schools

Prayer is powerful. Prayer changes things. Praying for our schools in one of the best things we could do with our time.

Across Colchester many churches are regularly praying for their local schools – in fact we know that at least 70% of schools in Colchester are prayed for regularly by a church or group. Wouldn’t it be great if every school in Colchester was prayed for regularly?

What are we praying for?

  • Schools as places of safety and peace
  • Staff  to have peace, rest, and enjoyment in their work
  • Senior leaders and decision-makers to have wisdom
  • Students to thrive
  • For opportunities for children and young people to grow in hope, life, and faith

Highlights from Pray For Schools Gathering 2025

On 25th June 2025, the community gathered at St John’s Colchester for a powerful evening of intercession. It was a beautiful picture of unity across the local Church: people from various denominations and traditions coming together with one shared heartbeat—to see God move in our schools.

Our Vision for Colchester’s Schools

Our longing is to see schools become beacons of light, peace, hope, and joy. Throughout the evening, we petitioned for:

  • Thriving Environments: That both students and staff would flourish.
  • Healthy Relationships: For positive connections to be built across every classroom.
  • The Love of God: That God’s love would be tangible and transformative in every school building.

Over the evening we prayed in many different formats: from call and response, to gathered prayer, prophetic declarations, through movement, through sign language, in silence, out loud, in other languages. There was a deep sense of unity and togetherness – and we know that in unity God commands a blessing! We’re really excited to see what happens as we continue to pray.

A special thanks to Jacob and Sarah who beautifully captured the event for us. Check out the highlights.
